What is the age difference between two people?
The age difference is the amount of calendar time between two birth dates. Enter both birthdays and the calculator measures the gap from the earlier date to the later date in complete years, months and days.
It also shows the total number of calendar days between the birthdays. That gives you both the familiar calendar answer and one simple day count.
How is an exact age gap calculated?
The calculator counts complete years first, then complete months, then the remaining days. It uses the real calendar, including leap years and months with 28, 29, 30 or 31 days.
That is more accurate than subtracting the birth years or multiplying the year difference by 365.
Age difference example
Suppose one person was born on January 10, 1990 and another was born on April 25, 1992. Calling the difference "about two years" hides the extra months and days. The calculator keeps counting after the complete years so the result shows the full gap.
For birthdays that are only weeks or months apart, the total-days result can be easier to understand than a years-months-days answer.
Who is older?
The person with the earlier birth date is older. You can enter the birthdays in either order because the calculator sorts the dates before finding the difference.
What happens with month-end and leap-day birthdays?
Dates near the end of a month can make hand calculations awkward. February is especially different because it has 28 days in a normal year and 29 in a leap year. The calculator follows the calendar rather than assuming every month has the same length.
A February 29 birthday is accepted when the birth year is a leap year. The age gap is then measured from that real calendar date.
What if both people have the same birthday?
If the complete birth dates match, the age difference is zero. If the month and day match but the years differ, the result is a whole number of calendar years.
